Long Beach Earthquake - March 10, 1933

As some of you may know, we had a earthquake last night in Long Beach. It was a 4.7 and it trembled pretty good. Brawny and I, along with our better halves, were sitting in my backyard at the time and all of us got to witness my garage shaking along with rest of the good earth beneath us.

It was nothing like the 6.4 magnitude earthquake that rattled Long Beach and Compton in 1933 though. Check out what it looked like on 3rd St. in Long Beach, between Long Beach Blvd. and Pacific:

Hope this guy had insurance:
This one is pretty gnarly:
Tons of old homes didn't make it in 1933. My own pad is a 1928 and there's some repairs in parts of the house that has brick (chimney, front patio), which I believe was from the 1933 trembler:
This last shot was just a few miles up the street in Compton, 1933:

2nd from the bottom is a pic of your pad Nelson? You guys were BBQing in the backyard while that quake was happenin? My Step-Dad owns a roofing company in Tulsa Ok. and he says they are scared of quakes out there..but a softball sized hailstorm doesn't rattle them? WTF
D

Naaaaw, that ain't my house. It would be cool to find an old pic of it though. Haven't tried hard enough yet, though I have been to the LB Historical Society... but not long enough to look through their records.
