Mekong NYC

I think it was the earlier part of 2003 when I met Frank Delgadillo while working for Chica Custom Cycles in Huntington Beach, CA. Frank had hooked me up quite a bit since I've known him, guess he could tell how broke I was building motorcycles for a living out of a hole-in-the-wall shop. Yeah, Frank's been a great guy to know. He just started up another apparel company called The Comune, in which he had assembled another great team (and I got the chance to consult with as well on a current motorcycle-related project - more on that later).

Here's a shot of Frank with his bike on the cover of The Horse in 2004. The photo was shot by Crazy George. It was one of the first of a hundred articles I had written for them, which I also started shooting the features myself shortly after this issue:
Just thought I'd introduce Frank because he's been digging the Sunday Off Topic Food Posts, so I asked him to submit one of his own:

Mekong is a favorite place of mine to eat at when in Soho on a warm New York summer night. It stands out from the many Vietnamese restaurants that dwell throughout the city offering authentic taste with a relaxed local neighborhood vibe and social setting.
I like to grab a table on the patio, enjoy a glass of Malbec from their extensive wine list and kick back in the company of good friends.

The food is insane – I recommend ordering several dishes to share from the Crispy Rare Beef Salad to the Grilled Lemongrass Pork and mouth watering Calamari appetizer with a delicious buttery pepper sauce like no other.

Of course what also makes Mekong so unique is the familiar face of owner, Brian Bui, whom after 15 years in business is always welcoming, turns up the music per your request and is the king of keeping the drinks flowing as the night progresses.

Mekong is located at 18 King Street (corner of 6 Ave) in New York. For more info call 212.343.8169
