I was at Top Shelf a couple of weeks ago and came across this FXR. As you may (or may not) know, I'm a big fan of the venerable FXR.
Just as many old styles of choppers had been clouded in mystery and "undocumented" just a few years ago, I've felt that like-minded enthusiasts of the FXR were similar to that. Far and few between. Rarely did I come across individuals after performance oriented FXR's for daily spirited riding.
Many FXR fans purely enjoy just the look of the bike. Those FXR's get lowered, stretched, raked, etc. By doing this, the FXR dramatically loses it's ability for cornering and overall handling... although the root of it's cult status comes from the ability to do just that. A big twin Harley-Davidson that can handle an ample amount of power and corner half-way decent, what?
So back to this FXR. It's been sort of a day dream of mine to create such a monster. Chopperguys' FXR frame, TwinCam style S&S 124" motor, inverted Ceriani front end, stock Twin Cam FLT trans (which has the oil pan under the trans, less weight on top!) , Ohlins shocks. I also think it had a 180mm or maybe 200mm rear tire. The bike was in the shop just to have it's bodywork removed and repainted.
I'll try and shoot more FXR's and a few select Dyna's too, so stay tuned!

oh Yeah Nelson..ask about Gary Munoz' FAT XL..shit is a HOT ROD fo sho..gotta take a few to notice the details like the ducts hidden in the King tank for cooling the rear cylinder..etc etc.
they are detail guys for real
D
Agreed, the FXR is a great bike, i love mine. Handles like a razor blade, stops on a dime and is rowdy if the engine has zing. After 18yrs, mine is still tons of fun in any situation, even highway drones. An added benefit is you can configure the bike in almost any way, if you've squirreled the parts away.... and Chopper Guys, ahhh...i lust for one of their raised panel oil tanks
Pure FXR porn!!!!!
Keep them coming...
Nelly!!! That FXR is fuckin' sick!!!! Get more photo's for boto's!!!!
Schwartzkopf Customs in Marina Del Rey CA built this bike. Thanks to Peter Tripp for the info.
