The only hula and chant competition in Southern California happens just blocks away from me at the Long Beach Performing Arts Center. Not only does it mean we get to see hula and hear traditional chants that go with it, we all know there would be food too. We had tickets so we went in for an hour to enjoy the igloo-blast AC:

Lots of people showed up. They kept the doors open to the lobby so the AC was blowing hard through the doors, which kept people hanging around.

Oh, what? Hungry? Good thing I had a pocket camera.

Lots of snacks as usual. Spam musubi, steamed or baked manapua, teriyaki sticks, etc. etc.

There weren't much to choose from for actual lunch though. I took a chance and went with the shoyu chicken. Uuuhhhhh, wasn't that good. I've had better. I've made better! But I hate to complain. Local food and hula just 5 minutes away from my pad, I'm all good.

Good time to stock up on slippahz if you're running low. Not easy too easy to find in CA when it gets a little cooler out:

More hula going on outside too:

It was kind of a small deal but worth supporting Hawaiian transplants on 'da mainland'.

You gotta love the ethnic mix of people that is so prevalent in the islands. Some of the best looking wahines around. Hana hou!
I love a Poly good time, music, song, dance a food.
We call them tahine but I know where you're at fievola.
