hell, for that money, get a decent macbook pro, or save a buck and get a good mini and a big monitor. hope you didn't lose any files. that's the worst thing about crashes.
I'd go to a laptop, you could get a top of the line MBpro or Air and still be under 3K. I have been running the hell out of a 6+ year old ibook G4 and it has alzhemier's but still wakes up and works every day.
Lap top's forte is portability and you pay a premium for that. Also, since the screens are mounted lower to the keyboard, they aren't the best when it comes to ergonomics.
The cheapest iMac 21" is now almost half the price of what I paid for my old 20" iMac G5 and probably 4-5 times better, so you might not really need the fully loaded model
Mine died about a month ago (4-5 years old), but I was lucky. All it needed was a new power supply ($94 installed).
my G5 IMac is also a cripple on it's last legs running on borrowed time. It's never been a top athlete. I'm planning on a Apple MiniMac + a cheapo big screen.
If you do a lot of graphics I recommend trying a Wacom drawing tablet they're the schitz.
Sorry to here that. My G4 Imac crashed last week. Most all G4 have logic board or Kernel panic's. Look on Apples web site they have clearance computer page. Great deals.

Once you go mac, you never go back.
Yeah, I have the 17" mac book pro...But, doing graphics on it strains the eyes a bit.
is mac really better than a pc?
