The Bonnie and Clyde of the Victorian Motorcycle Scene

My wife (who I have been with for 29years) and I left Wangaratta at 1:30pm Friday the 3rd of August to go to an event in Melbourne. She was driving the family car and I was riding my motorcycle. Our first stop was the B.P service station at Seymour next to the Hume Highway.I fuelled up and was checking my bike over as I have just put a new motor and a few other part’s on it.I also met with my good friend, a mechanic who had travelled from Bendigo to show me a performance carburetter and give me some mechanical advice. This all took place in full view of anyone walking or driving through the service station.

We said our goodbyes and headed off in our separate directions.Riding along just at the Clonbinane turn off I notice a police car coming up behind us.The car drove along side my wife (in the right lane) until the traffic built up then pulled in behind her, he does this for about 10 kilometres. Then I see another one sitting on the edge of the Highway, you guessed it out it comes, then a third car appears. Now the fun starts, I was manouvered to the edge of the road (about 20 metres in front of a parking bay), as I was taking my helmet off I am informed that there has been a report of a handgun in the car. The situation becomes real serious as I am in between the police at the back of car and my wife in the front seat.Heavy traffic prominately B Double Trucks are going past in both lanes doing 100km. The police are at the back of the trailer my wife is towing, yelling let us see your hands, put your hands on the steering wheel followed by put your hands out the window. My wife has just had an operation on her inner ear, she is looking for her licence unaware to the situation developing. Well they’re still yelling and have got there hands on their holsters. I’m yelling at her and also at the police it’s a very, very volitile situation.

This is where I must thank the good old Sargent he took control of a nasty situation and stopped what was escalating into a real bad situation, nothing worse when all involved are in the right. So thankyou Sargent for doing your job!

Now we have another police car and 2 more police officers.I was asked if they could search the car because of a report of a handgun being seen. I agreed, so while that went on we were both drug swabbed (lovely for a good person in the community and a mother of 2 girls). I said this to the police, that I expect this but putting my wife through this and on show in full view of all was unacceptable. The car and bike were checked over.Without a booking or warning taking place. The Sargent apologized for what had occurred as they were only following procedure. We were free to go after 40 minutes, (questioning, searching, drug swabbing, vechile checking, in front of constant traffic including members from our community).

Now where is this all going? What has happened to innocent until proven guilty?, who we can socialize with?(proposed legislation), what we can wear when riding our bikes? Surely this must affect every Australian Where are our rights going? What is being drummed into to the police, governments and the community about what type of people BIKIES really are? Only speaking as a longtime club involved member the first basic thing that should be taught. Is that “REAL OLD SCHOOL BIKIES RIDE MOTORCYCLES”! In the boot of the car were motorcyle parts for a good friend of ours son who had been hit by a car, not a hand gun.

This STUPID do-gooder that made the report, please wait until I have my wife insured next time .Because you idiot you might hate bikies but what you did is put my wifes life at risk not mine, she was the one in the car by herself and then initally mine.

I am going to try and get this letter published somewhere or everywhere so this stupid do-gooder person can at least try to comprehend / understand or think, I know it will be hard for them, but before they get someone hurt or shot at no fault of the people involved in the incident.

Judging books by covers is now in epidemic proportions, the press and the cops are fostering a nation of uninformed dobbers. Great article that covers all bases and a message that really deserves mainstream publication. I do hope your wife is ok, cheers and good luck.

"Thank you" to Ronny for sharing this, I hope some of the mainstream will eventually see this and get another view of what our lives are really about and that there are regular people here?
