Farming can provide brutal work under equal conditions. But, it can provide the exact opposite as well. At least his outlook was good. Probably didn't miss a beat either and got back to work as soon as possible.

I know like a dozen friends who don't have their "real dad" 'cause he died in a accident related to a grain bin, auger, barn loft, combine, etc. Dangerous work that gets routine.

I rode dirt bikes with a guy that got both arms mutilated while clearing land when he was 13. He drove the tractor a few miles with broken and bloody arms to get help. He lucked out and they were able to save both arms.

In college one of my professors was missing a couple fingers because he got tangled up in a PTO shaft of a baler. He said he knows for sure he went between the PTO shaft and the drawbar 3 times before he blacked out. Crazy.
