We can only hope this will never be images from our door steps, in our lifetime or our children's children's life times at least. It just seems too fucking close as of late. Who fucking knows whats next...
Warsaw Hungary, 1956. Russian-installed communist Govt. faced opposition from local leftists(!),There was a spontaneous uprising. West promised help.Or was seen to have done so by the Hungarians listening to the Voice of America radio network. Russians intervened, West did nothing.
I remember it because my parents were terrified that america was going to to something about it and that that would lead to WW3. I was five at the time.
It doesn't much resemble any scenario that a reasonable person can imagine happening in the USA anytime soon. And probably not in Hungary either.
A year later a family of affluent Hungarian refugees moved in up the street from us. The kids became our friends, but i don't remember asking them anything about Hungary. I know they must have been affluent because hey had a big model railroad setup in their basement. Bigger than the pool table.
