In October of 1970 Bob Leppan returned to Bonneville and went head to head with a Harley Davidson Streamliner driven by AMA flat track superstar Cal Rayborn. The Harley snatched the record and Leppan was ready to respond.
The Gyronaut had been updated and the two Triumph Bonneville twins had been reinstalled, bored out to 750cc each. Then it happened.... Bob was blazing toward the measured mile at over 270 MPH when the frontend collapsed! Before he could react the bike started rolling from side to side. During one of the rolls Bob's arm was ground into the hard-packed salt. Bob became a member of the 200 MPH Crash Club, but it almost cost him his arm!
