Huh. I bought a 2001 Dynya Glide FXDX, same color too. I still have that bike and love it to death! I had done/had done many similar (or exactly the same) mods as this one but not yet the bigger displacement and better heads, nor the 6-speed (I have a hot rod obsession with 2 other bikes). I just installed an HD primary chain autotensioner which seems to help with speed shifts (Heavy clutch spring, no need yet for heavy clutch pak). It is a wonderful bike in many ways, to be sure.

Nice bike!

i had a 02 fxdxt and i did the same shit big bore the whole enchilada ran bitchen but the dynas do not handle like fxr's they have a rear wobble that i couldnt handle so i sold it

HD's auto primary chain tensioner sucks.

Any ratcheting chain tensioner that doesn't allow the chain to stretch and contract with heat is inherently defective in design, especially when used with a pressed crankpin flywheel assembly that's held in its cases with crap roller bearings, another shit design all the way around.

Those pieces of shite are second only to the factory cam chain tensioner design.

Both are brilliant revenue generating designs, though - repair revenues...

Hard to believe America was once a manufacturing and engineering powerhouse...

On that primary chain auot tensioner, I did a lot of research and listened closely to local long time hot rod HD shop owner (Craig Bear, D&C Cycles. Not on the internet radar. He does use his dyno a lot). You make a valid point, however usually the chain tension is "between" ratchet points. And the crank won't easily go out-of-round on a 2001 TC. Unlike newer TC cranks but that is a whole nother horror story. Craig's replaced several exploded auto tensioners. I'll try it awhile, see how it goes. Been considering this mod for over a year before proceeding.

Other reason to replace with auto tensioner is to adjust the chain tension with shifter shaft sticking right through the access port is a sublime exercise in patience and frustration!
