Off Topic Sunday: I know, I've slacked off a while but here's a little something-something today... TACOS. I fucking love tacos. I will admit, having lived in Hawaii for 27 years of my life I never really got to have good Mexican food until I moved to Long Beach.
I usually hit up a bunch of Mexican food spots with CantStayJose. I let him order me whatever the fuck, I don't care. I'll eat it all. I've tried quite a bit of different foods in my life, especially since I'm from a melting pot like Hawaii. So when Jose orders me tacos with lengua (beef tongue), cabeza (head meat), buche (pork intestine/stomach) or whatever, I'll eat them and ask for seconds. It's nothing I haven't had before.
One night while hanging out with the trippy sounds of dub reggae, I had the bright idea of looking up good taco joints online. I came across this site:
The Great Taco Hunt. It's a blog style web site, like this one, but he does reviews of taco trucks, taco stands and taquerias (taco joints/restaurants). His site is killer. I'm gonna have to have homeboy take me deep into the East L.A territory to check out some of those spots with 5 star ratings.
Yeah, real deal tacos are killer. No cheese, no shredded lettuce, no sour cream. I'm turning into a taco nazi! Orale, holmes.

Also check out central mexican style from the Yucatan peninsula. A good conchinita pibil will destroy all others.

I was inspired to make tilapia tacos.
I know of some good East Los spots. One day you and Jose can ride up and I'll take you around.
Man I love tacos. I made chorizo tacos for lunch and supper yesterday. I've got carne asada marinating in the fridge right now that I put in last night, which I'll grill up for supper tonight.

The East LA King Taco (3rd st) at 1am - you'll see Sheriff Deputies and cholos sitting side by side with orange grease running down their forearms...
Me loves me some tacos too! You're right about the Mexican food in HI...it's no bueno! There's a great taqueria near my house on 4th and Coronado in LBC. Check it out!
