Harley-Davidson is reportedly in advanced discussions to acquire Italian marque MV Agusta.
According to Italian newspaper Il Messaggero, The Motor Company would buy out MV Agusta’s debts, estimated at around 200 million euros.

MV Agusta reportedly owes 70 million euros to suppliers and 130 million euros to banks, including a 95 million euro debt to Italian banking group Intesa Sanpaolo.

The proposed deal would transfer 80-85% of MV Agusta’s capital to Harley-Davidson, leaving the Italian company’s president, Claudio Castiglioni, with the remaining 15-20%.

Castiglioni, who lends his initials to the MV Agusta F4CC, currently owns 29.6% of the company while the majority share belongs to finance company Gevi of Genoa, Italy.

Although Il Messaggero’s report does not cite any sources and indicates the deal is stil in progress, our moles tell us that it's already a done deal. Expect a formal announcement next week.

When the acquisition is completed, Harley-Davidson will add MV Agusta’s brand of exotic premium motorcycles to its family, which already includes Buell.

Didn't HD just lay off 730 employees, costing them 20 mill in pension etc plans?

and them sold a ton of bonds to raise money, that they will have to pay back, i assume.

and The goal is to reduce motorcycle shipments by at least 23,000 units, yet pay out more to their stock holders?

and they want to buy a motorcycle company that builds superior motorcycles, but that will cost them 200mill to get it back in the green...

is that a good thing?

wow, can't wait to see the Dark Custom marketing strategy for the MV's...

HD is looking to Europe to make money, becuase there isn't any in the US any more (thanks G.W.) That is why the XR1200 is only available in Europe. Motorcycle sale are down around 20% in the US and up around 30% in Europe.

i cant belive the pics in that crap booklet dark custom they "secretly"hand out..all the pics of bikes with open primarys and kickers...haha...most dealerships will not take in bikes older than a 2000 for service..this was the case way back when i worked at a dealer 8 years ago..and it still is.harley trys to push the dealers to do this thus makeing it almost impossible for a yuppie biker(person wearing assless leather pants in 100deg. heat)to get service..harleys bright idea was that it would push people to buy new bikes if noone would be willing to service the ones they had..this was back when the dealer i worked at sold them for $2k over msrp...what a fucking joke..they tried to make all the stores like car dealerships..how many do you want?..and in what colors?
