you need to use a "plate" or something flat. I use a piece of plexiglass with a small hole in the middle. hold it down, then fill through the hole. you may need a thin layer of grease to seal it. a burrette with a valve at the bottom could be easier than a syringe.

you're right. i was half asleep that day. I measured again a different way: i bumped it to BDC, smeared some white lithium around the jug, brought it to TDC and wiped off all the excess. then with the head torqued i filled the combustion chamber with pre-mix oil using a small syringe. I found that the domed pistons contributed to an 8cc discrepancy between the measurements AND what the factory lists as a compression ratio was way off. to get the oil out i just bumped it till the exhaust opened a little.
