A bunch of us were at the El Camino Vintage Motorcycle Swap in Torrance a couple of weeks ago, just a few blocks from Bruddah's. I got some general directions and found my way to the spot. I've only eaten here twice before, a couple years back now that I think about it:
Is Bruddah's good? I can't really remember... but Dustin's folks, Mitch and Linda, they said it was and I trust their taste in local style grindz. "Dustin? No, take a left! Not a right..." said Linda. It was hard to hear him since he was talking on the coconut connection device while riding in a sidecar.
CantStayJose and the Dustinator made it intact a few moments later.
Our table was ready and we were starving.
Oh, hey... howzit? Some of my favorite haole bruddahz showed up to... ChopperDave and 9Half Mark. They know there's good eats here. Follow the Hawaiians, no worry!
What's da specials? Oh!
Always gotta order spam musubi's for appetizer. Spam what? It's like a spam sushi. Fried spam in soy sauce and sticky rice wrapped in seaweed. It's gone in seconds, only one left:
Better watch out.
Cuz da last one iz gone quick, brah!
Braised Beef Short Ribs were on the specials menu. Like father, like son - they know what to get. Da meat fall off da bone... but das jus da half of it! It's all about the brown gravy. Gotta be good, choice brown gravy:
That goes for the Loco Moco too. Bed of sticky white rice, big hamburger patty on top, eggs, then covered in the perfect brown gravy:
What I got? Hawaiian Plate! One of the special mixed plates of the day. From the left: Lomi Lomi Salmon (kinda like a Hawaiian salsa, sorta, with tomatos, onions, salmon bits, and more, goes well with rice), Chicken Long Rice (soupy glass noodle dish with chicken), Pork Lau Lau (roasted pork wrapped in taro leaves), white rice and a side of the Mac Daddy (mac salad!).
Jose and I always get a side. The side here was huge so we split a side of Shoyu Chicken. The sauce is excellent over rice. Always good to eat with Jose, he's always down to order sides! And he'll anything, just like me:
We recommend Bruddah's.
Can't wait to go back.
